About the College Counselor

Dr. William Yarwood
wyarwood@doaneacademy.org

William Foster Yarwood, Ed.D, is a Past-President of the Pennsylvania Association for College Admission Counseling (PACAC).  He enjoys close working relationships with admissions officers at many colleges and universities in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and other Middle Atlantic States.  As a result of the positions he has held on various regional and national committees of the College Board, those relationships also extend to many colleges up and down the east coast, and into the mid-west.  His ability to reach out to admissions people at a wide spectrum of institutions is further enhanced by the more than fifteen years that he served on the faculty of the PACAC Summer Institute.  Now in its 35th year, this professional development workshop is held annually at Bucknell University, and has been responsible for the initial training of many admissions professionals who are now key decision makers in the field.

Prior to joining Doane Academy, Dr. Yarwood was responsible for college guidance services at nearby Moorestown High School, and at suburban-Philadelphia schools as Radnor High School in St. Davids, Pennsylvania and Conestoga High School in Berwyn, PA.  While at Conestoga, he taught evening classes for five years at Villanova University School of Education at both the undergraduate and graduate school levels.  This experience broadens his perspective of what high school students need to know in order to succeed at the college level.

Dr. Yarwood has personally visited nearly 200 college campuses during his career.  He has participated in counselor tours of colleges and universities in Maryland, Virginia, Ohio, Wisconsin, and the Finger Lakes region of New York.  Most recently, he visited 16 colleges and universities in Florida in February 2011.  Dr. Yarwood currently serves on Admissions Advisory Committees of Rider University and Widener University.   Over the years, he has served on similar committees at Penn State, Rosemont, Rutgers, and Temple.

Dr. Yarwood grew up in Media, Pennsylvania, and he and his wife now live in Ocean City, New Jersey.  They have two adult children, and two grandchildren, ages 9 and 12.  They enjoy sailing, travel, and cheering their grandchildren on at swim meets and little league games.
