Lower
School
Doane Academy's Lower School provides a warm and supportive learning environment for children during their most formative school years, prekindergarten through sixth grade. Our small class sizes and low student-faculty ratio allow our gifted and dedicated teachers to form close, trusting relationships with students and parents. Teachers communicate with parents on a regular basis (formally and informally) to form a working relationship in the education of the student. Student-teacher relationships are special, as small class sizes allow teachers to recognize each student’s unique learning style and personality.
Teachers take advantage of every opportunity for their students to experience success. This is accomplished through a curriculum that encourages creativity, builds academic, social and physical skills, nurtures character development and enhances self-esteem. Beyond the academic curriculum, students have numerous opportunities outside the classroom, through various field trips and assemblies, character building activities similar to those experienced in the Upper School’s Roots and Wings Program, Private Instruction Music Program, and interscholastic athletics. In Doane’s safe and supportive environment, children feel secure, and become more willing to discover new ideas and take risks to explore them.
At Doane Academy, children have an opportunity to experiment, change, and grow as
part of a unique prekindergarten through twelfth grade school atmosphere, where all students are known, loved, and encouraged to realize their full potential. A Doane Academy education encompasses a world of experiences through which students discover the very best within themselves and enhances their capacity to relate to the people and places around them. There's no better preparation for higher education— or for life. |
