Alumni Introduction Dear Graduates and Friends of Doane Academy, Doane Academy is not only alive and well, it is thriving and its future has never been brighter. As you well know, traditions run deep here at the academy, but as one who works at Doane Academy everyday, I am pleased to report that our school continues to uphold its most important tradition which is to help students develop the important skills they need to be prepared not only for college but for life. Because of dedicated teachers, staff, and administration at DA who spend countless hours nurturing our students, helping them discover their unique talents, our graduates are confident individuals who are equipped to change their environment. Communication with our graduates is of utmost importance and one of the goals of the Society of Graduates this year is to improve communication both electronically and by hosting new events geared towards younger alumni. Visit our website where you will read articles about our graduates, view old and new photographs and keep abreast of upcoming events. Open our e-newsletter to see what is currently happening at Doane and don’t forget to “friend request” us on Facebook. I look forward to seeing all of you at one of our events or for a casual visit. I can be found on the third floor of Odenheimer in what used to be the bathing room for the women who boarded here. The view from my window includes the roof of the chapel, a place that continues to be an integral part of our Doane Academy culture. The river is calm today. The passing barges and tugboats still cause students to run to the windows to watch as the bridge rises. We are the same, but we have changed. I challenge you to return, not only to reminisce, but also to experience our future alumni, the new faces of Doane Academy. You will not be disappointed. Jacalyn Ashmore Bak ‘76 |
