Fall Sports

During the fall season, Upper School students have the opportunity to run varsity cross country (coed), row crew (coed), or play on the varsity men’s or women’s soccer teams. Fall practice begins Monday, August 17 (for times, see that team page) and the schedule ends the last week of October. Varsity teams compete in the Penn Jersey Athletic Association (PJAA) and the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA). PJAA fall playoffs are at the end of October and state tournaments take place in November.

Students in grades 6–8 have the opportunity to play on a coed middle school soccer team. Practices begin after the first day of school and occur 3–4 times a week from 3:30pm–5pm. The middle school season ends around the last week of October.

Winter Sports

During the winter season, Upper School students have the opportunity to play varsity men’s and women’s basketball. Practice begins in early December and the season runs through mid-February. Practice times for our Varsity Girls is 3:30-5pm, JV Boys is 5-6pm and Varsity Boys is 6-7:30 pm on each day no game is scheduled. Both varsity teams compete in the Penn Jersey Athletic Association (PJAA) and the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA).

Students in grades 6–8 have the opportunity to play on a middle school girls or middle school boys basketball team. Practice begins at the end of November and the season runs through January. Practice times are typically 3:30–4:45pm at the YMCA.

Practice begins in early March and the season runs through mid-May. The softball and baseball teams compete in both the Penn Jersey Athletic Association (PJAA) and the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA). The crew team competes independently, and as a member of the Philadelphia Scholastic Rowing Assocation (PSRA).

Students in grades 6–8 have the opportunity to play on a middle school girls softball or middle school boys baseball team. Practice begins early March and the season runs through May. Practice times are typically 3:30–5:00 pm.

Spartans Sports News

Varsity Basketball Season Comes to an End

Both the Varsity Boys and Girls teams season came to a conclusion, Wednesday evening. The NJSIAA Tournament's Non-Public South Jersey B first round matched the Varsity Girls at Moorestown Friends. The Spartans (13-11) lost the contest 58-24. The Varsity Boys hosted their contest against Wildwood Catholic. The Spartans (19-6) were defeated 81-69.

Varsity Boys Basketball - 87, Holy Cross - 58 (Senior Night)

The Doane Academy community celebrated our two boys basketball seniors, Saturday afternoon. The Spartans (19-5) defeated Holy Cross 87-58. Seniors, Titus Flowers had 4 points and Cole Trimble added 9 points in their last regular season game in the Doane Academy gym. Titus Flowers always adds rim protection for the Spartans whenever he is on the floor. Standing 6'6 with an arm span of a 7 footer, teams always think twice about driving the lane. Cole Trimble is the Spartans heart and energy. Embracing the assignment to occasionally guard the opponents top scorer, Cole is the ideal teammate and the type of player every coach wants on their team. Please come see our seniors as the Spartans host a state playoff game on March 1st at 6 PM vs. Wildwood Catholic. Doane Academy would also like to celebrate Junior, Damon Wall for scoring the game high 33 points and recording his 1,000th career point during the contest.

Varsity Girls Basketball - 24, Holy Cross - 52 (Senior Night)

The Doane Academy community celebrated our lone girls basketball senior, Saturday afternoon. The Spartans (13-10) were defeated by Holy Cross 52-24. Cassie Tavormina scored 13 points in her last game in the Doane Academy gym. The senior captain led the team in points and assists. Besting her single game career high in points several times this season, Cassie was always one of the hardest workers on the court all year long. We like to wish Cassie the very best in her future endeavors.

Varsity Boys Basketball - 85, Morristown-Beard - 92 OT (Prep B Championship)

The Doane Academy Spartans (18-4) hosted the Prep B Championship, late Monday afternoon. In a very close game, Morristown-Beard won in overtime 92-85.

Varsity Boys Basketball - 44, Girard College - 74 (Penn-Jersey Semi Finals)

The Doane Academy Spartans' (18-3) quest for a Penn-Jersey Championship came to an end, Monday afternoon. The Spartans traveled to Philadelphia, PA. to play Girard College in the Semi-Finals and fell 74-44. Chase Lane was the Spartans high scorer with 14 points and also recorded his 1,000th career point on a 4th-quarter dunk. Doane Academy's next contest will be the Prep B Championship Game against Morristown-Beard on the Doane Academy campus, President's Day, February 20th at 5 PM.

Varsity Boys Basketball - 64, Pennington - 62 (Prep B Semi Finals)

Doane Academy hosted the Prep B Semi-Final Playoff game, Sunday afternoon. In front of a standing room only crowd, the Spartans (18-2) defeated Pennington 64-62. Damon Wall scored 30 points and Chase Lane added 21 points to advance Doane Academy to the Prep B Championship Game. This is the farthest any Doane Academy basketball team has reached in the Prep B Tournament. The Spartans wait on the winner of the Princeton Day School at Morristown Beard contest which takes place 4 PM today.

Varsity Girls Basketball - 42, New Foundations - 58 (PJ Playoffs second round)

The Doane Academy Spartans hosted a Penn-Jersey Playoff 2nd round girls basketball game, Wednesday afternoon. The Spartans (13-7) fell to New Foundations 58-42. Doane's scoring was led by Cassie Tavormina's 14 points and Maddie Rios' 11 points.

Varsity Boys Basketball - 70, Pine Forge (PA) - 56 (PJ Playoffs first round)

The Doane Academy Spartans hosted Pine Forge in the first round of the Penn-Jersey Playoffs, late Tuesday afternoon. The Spartans (17-2) held off a very athletic Pine Forge team 70-56, to move on to the second round of the playoffs held Thursday night. Doane Academy were led by Damon Wall's 24 points and Chase Lane's 20 points.

Varsity Girls Basketball - 35, Girard - 12 (PJ Playoffs first round)

Doane Academy Spartans girls basketball successfully advanced past the first round of the Penn-Jersey playoffs, Monday afternoon. Led by a strong defense and a game high 13 points by Maddie Rios, the Spartans (13-6) defeated Girard 35-12.

The Doane Academy girls basketball team traveled to Solebury, Friday afternoon. The Spartans (12-6) won the Penn-Jersey North Division after defeating Solebury 57-27. Cassie Tavormina scored a game high 21 points. Tania Bryant scored 14 points, Sara Marchesani scored 10 points, and Maddie Rios scored 9 points to complete a very balanced scoring attack. Defensively, the Spartans held Solebury to single digit scoring in all four quarters. Doane Academy ended the regular season conference record 7-0.

Varsity Boys Basketball - 68, Princeton Day School - 66

For Princeton Day School's Senior Night, the Doane Academy Spartans (16-2) traveled to PDS, Thursday evening. In a very emotional game for several different reasons, the Spartans defeated Princeton Day School 68-66. Using a very balanced offensive attack, the Spartans' leading scorers were Chase Lane's 18 points, Tyrese Myricks 13 points, Nick St. Juste's 13 points, and Damon Wall's 12 points.

Varsity Girls Basketball - 66, Academy of the New Church - 39

The Doane Academy Spartans girls basketball hosted Academy of the New Church, Thursday afternoon. The Spartans (11-6) were led by Senior, Cassie Tavormina's 27 points as they cruised to a 66-37 victory. Doane's Maddie Rios scored 15 points (hitting four 3-pointers) and Tania Bryant scored 14 points and 6 rebounds.

Varsity Boys Basketball - 70, New Foundations - 57

Looking to avenge one of two defeats this season, the Doane Academy Spartans (15-2) traveled to Philadelphia to play New Foundations, Tuesday evening. A contest between two of the top teams in the Penn-Jersey Conference, the Spartans defeated New Foundations 70-57. A balanced scoring attack led the Spartans as Damon Wall scored 16 points, Chase Lane scored 13, Tyrese Myrick scored 13, and Arian Gomez scored 11.

Varsity Girls Basketball - 56, Solebury - 25

The Doane Academy Spartans (10-6) hosted Solebury in a make-up game, Tuesday afternoon. Senior, Cassie Tavormina scored a career high 38 points to led the Spartans to a 56-25 win. On the defensive end, Doane Academy was able to shut out Solebury in the third quarter.

Varsity Boys Basketball - 65, Calvary Christian (Old Bridge) - 31

The Doane Academy Spartans (14-2) defeated Calvary Christian 65-31, Monday evening. Led by Damon Wall's game high 23 points and Chase Lane's 13 points, the Spartans also over powered Calvary on the defensive end by only allowing single digit scoring in the first three quarters of the contest.

Varsity Girls Basketball - 51, Calvary Christian (Old Bridge) - 31

The Doane Academy Spartans hosted Calvary Christian (Old Bridge), Monday afternoon. The Spartans (9-6) was led by senior, Cassie Tavormina's game high 26 points. Freshman, Ernsvitha St. Juste also had a game high 10 rebounds and 5 block shots. The last 2-points of the contest was scored by the Spartan's Rose Van Sciver, completing the 51-25 victory for Doane Academy.

Varsity Boys Basketball - 80, United Christian - 59

The Doane Academy Spartans hosted United Christian, Thursday evening. The Spartans (13-2) used a balanced scoring attack to defeat United Christian 80-59. The Spartans shared the ball and used teamwork to have five players with double digit scoring. Damon Wall's 16 points, Tyrese Myrick's 15 points, Chase Lane's 14 points, Nick St. Juste's 10 points, and Arian Gomez scored 10 points in the contest. Willie Colon scored 8 points, just two points shy of having six players in double digits for the Spartans.

Varsity Girls Basketball - 45, Princeton Day School - 71

Doane Academy Spartans Girls Basketball hosted Princeton Day School, Thursday afternoon. Although Doane (8-6) fell to Princeton Day School 71-45, The Spartans were led by great effort from Ernsvitha St. Juste and Cassie Tavormina. St. Juste was just one point shy of a double-double with 9 points and 11 rebounds. Tavormina scored a team high 21 points.

Varsity Boys Basketball - 58, Foundations Collegiate - 37

The Doane Academy Spartans traveled to Foundations Collegiate for a very important Penn-Jersey Conference game. The Spartans (12-2) were led by Damon Wall's game high 28 points in the 58-37 victory. Team defense was the theme of the contest, holding Foundations Collegiate's top scorer to 10 points in the game and holding the team to single digit points in the 1st quarter and the 4th quarter.

Varsity Girls Basketball - 60, Pennsauken Tech - 31

The Doane Academy Spartans hosted Pennsauken Tech, Wednesday afternoon. The Spartans (8-5) were led by Cassie Tavormina's career high 32 points, defeating Penn Tech 60-31. The Spartans smothering 3-2 zone defense held Pennsauken Tech to single digit scoring in the 2nd quarter, 3rd quarter, and 4th quarter.
