Lower School Option

Before School Care

We offer before school care Monday–Friday beginning at 7:30 am. Students in PreK through grade 5 are eligible for before care. Students may do their homework, play tabletop games, draw, do pencil-paper puzzles, read or engage in quiet conversation with classmates. At 8:00 am the students are dismissed from the program to go to their classrooms. There is no fee for this program.

After School Care

Doane's after-care program provides a safe and secure environment for Lower School children from 3:20-5:30 p.m. Students enjoy outdoor play and get the opportunity to begin homework. Costs for after-care are as follows:

2024-2025 Annual Cost

Five Days Per Week: $2250

Four Days Per Week: $1800

Three Days Per Week: $1350

Two Days Per Week: $900

One Day Per Week: $450

Families will be given instructions for how to register their children for after-care in an email sent by the Head of Lower School in mid-August. If you have questions about after-care before then, please contact our Head of Lower School, Kathleen Megahan at kmegahan@doaneacademy.org with any questions.

Drop-in after-care is available in emergency situations for $30.00, with cash or check payment preferred. Instructions for how to sign in for drop-in after-care is shared with Lower School families at the beginning of each school year.

The Homework Club

The purpose of the Homework Club program is to provide students with a structured and monitored study environment after school. In addition, students can receive extra help from the teacher overseeing it on a given day. We encourage students to attend Homework Club any time they are seeking a quiet place on campus to work after school. Teachers, advisors, and parents may also recommend to students that they attend. If a parent wants their child to attend HWC on an on-going basis, they should notify the Head of Upper School so that he can communicate their child’s expected attendance to the teachers monitoring it.

The program will run daily from 3:30-4:30 p.m. and be held in the Newbold Resource Center on the third floor of Rowan Hall. A different teacher will oversee it each day, and these teachers will rotate in the same pattern each week so that students know in advance when an expert in a given area of need is available. Students should continue to schedule time with their teachers to discuss their progress, assignments, and challenges, and these teachers will still be available by appointment after school.
