Friday, March 8th, Adam Ziegler '17 spoke to Mrs. Rupert's Biology students about his summer research project. He spent 10 days on the Navy Vessel Kilo Moana doing sample collections of pillow basalts and sulfides on the ocean floor along the Juan de Fuca Ridge in the Pacific Ocean. The mission was to discover new bacterial species and determine whether or not those new bacterial species can be used for medical opportunities like a cure for Parkinson's disease. Adam spoke to students about his experiences, his research, and ongoing projects. He also discussed his transition from Doane to college and how Doane prepared him to take advantage of the opportunities provided to him.
